The chair of International Economics essentially conducts empirical research related to International Trade, Regional Integration, New Economic Geography, and Urban Economics.

• Exchange Rate Regimes: transitions into/from currency unions
• Central Banks: central bank boards
• Empirical New Economic Geography: path dependency; Zipf's law for cities
• Urban Economics: effects of public transport infrastructure on shaping cities, empirical evaluations of the monocentric model, agglomeration economies in growing urban areas
